The Essex Green : Don't Know Why (You Stay)
Album: Cannibal Sea 2006A fantastic but under-appreciated indie-pop/neo-psychedelic album from the Vermont-based band The Essex Green. They are similar in vein to the various Elephant 6 bands of the late 90s and early 00s like Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montreal, and The Apples in Stereo that borrowed from, but not duplicated, the lush and sunshine, psychedelic pop of the late 1960s. There has definitely been an indie pop movement of late in the music scene (The Shins, The New Pornographers, Belle and Sebastian, etc.) and the Essex Green's Cannibal Sea is by far their magnum opus—a great album to get started in if your curious about indie pop. If you ever feel like the world is getting you down, just listen to this for a quick pick-me-up. Thanks to Merge Records for releasing quality music and buy the rest of their albums too.My personal favorites are Rue de LisDon't Know Why (You Stay)Sin City Snakes in the Grass
